For those of you who haven't experienced Camp Mowana
and the retreat let me give some explanation. Camp
Mowana is nestled into the woods near Mansfield,Ohio. It is wonderful to have the backdrop of the colored leaves with
the crisp Autumn air. We have 9 machines
set up of hands on and demo classes. The machines are open 24 hours so you can
practice after classes all to your hearts content.
A feature of this retreat that I really like is that all the
teachers are staying at the retreat with us. You get to eat your meals with
them, talk to them after class, and get to know them. We have a show and tell
on Tuesday night. Everyone brings something that they have quilted.(Yes, even
the beginners. We were all beginners once and you will find this a very
supportive group.) and they bring something that they havent quilted. There
are approximately 50 longarm quilters plus 6 professional teachers to give
ideas and advice on how it should be quilted. This evening is free and it is
just worth so much. It really is a fun evening and very informative.
The camp facilities are wonderful. The main retreat center
has double capacity rooms that are like hotel rooms. Each room has a private
bathroom and all the linens are provided for the rooms. Each room can be locked
and has a door to the inside and door to the outside. It is a beautiful
setting.
The Retreat center at this time is filled so we are spilling
over into Oswego Lodge. Oswego
is a short walk and we do have classes in that building also. This has more
like dorm rooms with bunkbeds. The showers and bathrooms are at the end of the
hallway. There are 4 to a room. The prices are different for the different
buildings so it does give the campers more options.
Camp is September 28th ~ October 1st.
